10th Annual Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Competition Now Open for Submissions


Winners will receive a $100 award. Winning poems and honorable mentions will be published in the 2018 Festival anthology and on the festival web site.


Six poets, selected from winners, honorable mentions and long list finalists will have their work nominated for a Pushcart Prize.


Both winners and honorable mentions will be invited to read their work at the festival in Cary, North Carolina, on Sunday April 8, 2018. Previous festival books are available at 


There is an entry fee of $10 per submission 1 (a single submission consists of three poems).



Submission Requirements

(*) Deadline to submit is January 15, 2018.

(*) All entries MUST be submitted via THIS LINK

(*) All poems submitted to the Festival must be unpublished, original works. Poems that are previously published in any form (including self-published books, online publications, blogs, and social media) are not eligible.

(*) Poet must submit three poems. Entries with fewer than three poems will not be considered. 

(*) Poems must be submitted in ONE file. Acceptable formats include .doc, .docx, or .pdf.

(*) The poems should be in English.

(*) Winning poems will be published in the annual NHPF anthology. Proceeds from anthology sales are used to support future competitions. Winning poems may also appear in promotional publications or online. By submitting their poems, poets grant NHPF rights to publish the poems at these venues.

(*) The poets will retain copyrights of their poems.

(*) Simultaneous submissions are allowed, however poets are expected to withdraw these submissions from other competitions if their work is listed among the winning poems of the Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Competition.

(*) The prize cannot be awarded in consecutive years to the same poet.

(*) Entries flaunting degrading sexual and physical violence or espousing extreme and/or violent political views will not be considered for judging at the discretion of the Nâzim Hikmet Poetry Festival. 


Selection & Notification
(*) Submitted poems will be evaluated anonymously.
(*) Contact information provided by the poets will not be disclosed to other individuals or organizations.
