2012 NHPF Poetry Competition Winners

Nazim Hikmet Poetry Competition winners have been announced. The Fourth Nazim Hikmet Poetry Competition received over 700 poems from 250 poets. 32% of the poems were submitted by poets who lived outside USA. 53% of the poems were submitted from NC. New York and California followed NC in the number of submissions.


Poetry selection committee (In alphabetical order) was as follows: Greg Dawes, Professor, Foreign Languages an Literatures, NCSU; Joseph Donahue, Poet & Senior Lecturing Fellow, Duke University; Dorianne Laux, Poet & Professor of English, NCSU; Murat Nemet-Nejat, Poet, translator, and essayist;Tanya Olson Poet & Instructor, Vance-Granville Community College & Vice-President, Carolina Wren Press;Hatice Orun Ozturk, Poet & Teaching Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, NCSU;  Pre-judging was done by Dianne Timblin, Managing Editor, Duke University Press

 The winning poets will read their poems at the Fourth Annual Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival, which will be held on Sunday April 15, at the Page Walker Arts & History Center in Cary, NC.
