2013 Competition

Selected poems will be published in the Festival Chapbook as well as on-line at the Festival web site. Festival winners will receive an award of $100 and will be invited to read their poems at the Fifth Annual Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival.



Entries received by  Friday, February 1, 2013, midnight (EST) will be considered for selection.

Submission Requirements

(*) All entries MUST be submitted via  the Festival web page
(*) All poems submitted to the Festival must be unpublished, original works.
(*) Each poet must submit three poems. Entries with fewer than three poems will not be considered.
(*) The poems should be in English.
(*) The selected poems will be published on-line at the Festival web site as well as in a chapbook.
(*) The proceeds from the chapbook sales will be used to support future competitions.
(*) Winning poems may appear in promotional publications.
(*) By submitting their poems, the poets grant NHPF all rights to publish the poems at these venues.
(*) The poets will retain copyrights of their poems.
(*) The poets are allowed to submit their poems to other competitions. However, they are expected to withdraw these submissions from other competitions if their work is listed among the winning poems of the Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Competition.


Selection & Notification

(*) Submitted poems will be evaluated anonymously.
(*) The contact information provided by the poets will not be disclosed to other individuals or organizations.
(*) The poets will be notified of their poem’s status by March 15, 2013.
